Radiography is a way to investigate the structure of solid objects. In the radiography electromagnetic radiation are used in locating the body parts. X-ray in Radiography was discovered in the year of 1895. X-rays are one type of electromagnetic radiations. Discovery of X-ray in radiography is mostly beneficial for the medical field. In early days, radiography was conducted at hospitals with the combine efforts of doctors, nurses, physician, and photographers. Later on medical specialty with radiography expanded with new technologies and new diagnostic tests come with the use of X-rays in radiography.
To capture body images X-ray in radiography is used with computed tomography, fluoroscope, ultrasound, mammography and magnetic resonance imaging. X-ray in radiography is produced with X-ray tubes that consist of radioactive materials like Radon and Radium. These radioactive materials are used for the natural radiation. Where as for artificial radiation of X-ray, artificial radiation isotopes like Cobalt-60 and Iridium-192 is used.
To produce x-ray in radiography, material is placed in oscillating electric and magnetic field. In early days, Radon and Radium were used as radiography material but eventually it is found that these materials emit radiotoxic radiations like alpha radiation. Therefore, later on use of these radioactive materials stopped and radioactive materials like Iridium and cobalt are used instead of them.
In above-mentioned way one is able to produce x-ray in radiography that are beneficial in detection of various injuries. X ray in radiography has smaller wavelength with high energy than ultra violet waves. While getting an x-ray at the hospital an X-ray sensitive film is used to put on one side of the body and X-rays are shot on the specific area. X-rays can easily passes through the body but are unable to pass through the bones, as bones are denser than the skin.
Because of this property, X-rays are useful to diagnose bone breakage, lung and abdomen problems. However, though X-rays are used to detect the bone breakage and all other diseases more exposure to X-rays is dangerous as they can kill cells and tissues of the body.
