There are those who would prefer to treat a headache without resorting to chemicals and drugs so what follows are some natural remedies that you can use at home to treat a headache.

Natural remedies for headaches should be easy to use, free of drugs or surgery, and be something that is relatively convenient to obtain.

Some say prevention is the best cure and that may be so, when it comes to headaches. If you can isolate the reason for your headaches, you can often times prevent future headaches by altering the trigger for the headaches.

Certain foods, environmental factors or even your emotions can trigger headaches.

If you keep a headache journal, you may start to see patterns that occur before the headache starts. You may find that you always get a headache after eating a certain food. If you notice this patter, try eliminating that food from your diet and see if your headaches diminish or stop altogether. You may have multiple reasons for headaches so you may have to give this some time, and be certain of what is triggering your headache.

When you have a headache try to write down in your headache journal everything that happened prior to your headache…were you emotional about something, stressed out? What did you eat prior to the headache? What were you drinking? Were you somewhere that you were exposed to fumes, or tobacco smoke?

The headache journal should be a useful tool.

In the meantime, if you get a headache, try using an ice pack, or going for a long walk. Lie down in a dark room for a while, where it is quiet.

Peppermint and feverfew have been used in the past to cure headaches. Others swear that aromatherapy helps a headache. Other respond well when they receive a massage.

Individuals have tried supplements such as riboflavin to relieve the pain of a headache.

Ask your doctor for natural cures and always consult with your doctor before taking supplements of any kind.

To avoid headaches it is important to improve your lifestyle so your body is as healthy as possible. This treating your body right includes eating nutritious foods, getting a decent amount of sleep each night and making sure that you are physically active everyday.

Stress can produce headaches so it is important to learn how to relax. Yoga, massages, and listening to soothing music are all good ways to relax. Some people find going for a walk or swimming relaxing.

Pamper yourself with candles, good music, a glass of water and a good book.
