Sit-up is a form of strength training. This generally involves working out of the abdominal muscles. This is an intense form of exercise. It involves vigorous physical movement. Due to the vigorous physical movements involved in the course of the exercise it helps in burning the excess of the calories in the body. Sit-ups are generally intended to develop the abdominal muscles and strengthen them. Thus along with muscle building exercise the extra calories of the body gets burnt. It is very essential to burn the extra amount of calories in the body in order to stay healthy. If excess amount of calories get accumulated in the body then it can lead to serious health hazards like heart attack, high blood pressure and diabetes. These diseases are fatal in nature so to prevent them the increasing amount of the calories in the body should be at once attended with care.

To perform this exercise a person has to lie down on the floor with their knees bend at 90-degree angle. Then they have to sit up without bending their knees. The hands are placed behind the neck or head or across the chest or straightened out parallel to the body. The motion is repeated time and again. The upward and downward movement of the whole body puts tremendous pressure on the abdomen.
