Basically climbing covers a wide range of recreational, adventurous or sporting activities involving the use of hands and feet to move up through the surface of a steep object. Rock climbing originally evolved from mountaineering and is the scaling of steep rocky surfaces usually using ropes and other safety climbing equipments for protection. Generally this adventurous sport can be sub divided into indoor climbing, free climbing and aid climbing. Indoor climbing is usually done on the surface of steep and high walls in an indoor sport avenue and is generally meant for training before a climber goes out for the real adventure. Free climbing is done on rocky surfaces of mountains and it involves the use ropes and gear that are strictly meant for the safety in case of a fall. And finally aid climbing where a passage is engineered up through the piece of rock by using the equipment placed in the rock for aiding the climbing process in upward passage.
Calorie burning through rock climbing:
Usually rock is an endurance type adventurous sport. The basic mantra is the climber should be an expert in slow burning of his or her stamina or energy. Even if it appears easy but in reality the fact is not that easy. In fact the climbers prior to the start of training in rock climbing should have a good physique, controlled strength over the muscles and should be vigorous. Even though there are no specific physical requirements to get into it but the climbers are trained to develop slow twitch fibers in their muscles that do not contract rapidly and burn energy more gradually and efficiently. As far as the concept of fitness and calorie burning goes it should better be noted that rock climbing might involve moderate to high intensity activity depending upon the type of climbing one prefers. On the other hand experts suggests that it is on of the most intense calorie burning exercises even though it is not necessary that it has to be at the hard core adventure levels. The process of burning calorie can also take place even if the climbing is done at a short distance of the ground on just bouldering surfaces. This is not dangerous or too taxing and even people in their 60′s can do it.
