In the radiography, there is use of the X-rays and other types of rays for study of the objects. Radiography is used in the different applications as for the medical or the industrial and research applications and therefore, accordingly many types of apparatus are used for its practice.
The basic requirements of the radiography are, a source producing the rays, a stand for supporting the patient who is to be studied, and the detection system. Therefore, the radiographic equipments should contain all of these
The rays that are used in the radiography are called the photons beams. They are generally the X-rays having very high energies. However, if they are used for the industrial applications they are still higher in power and on the other hand, if they are to be used for the medical use they are comparatively lower in energy. Therefore, the radiographic equipments are to be used accordingly.
For the medical use, the sources, of the X-rays generally are the X-rays tubes. The other sources that are used in the radiographic equipments are the cyclotron, betatron, etc. They produce very intense and energetic beam of X-rays and therefore they are better for the use in the industrial applications.
However, there are also other sources of X-rays used in the radiographic equipments. These are the radioactive substances, radiographic cameras, etc. The ‘microsecond X-rays’ pluses produce very high beam of X-rays are also commonly used in industrial applications.
The sources working on the electricity also have good controlling system and therefore the finest especially for medical applications. The X-rays that emerge through these sources are passed through the different filters and collimators before focusing on the target.
Different radiographic equipments are used for the detection in the radiography. Two of the most common among them are the photographic films and photographic plates. Either of them is used for producing an image of the target body. A negative type of image is developed on them and its fixed form is used by the doctors for studying the disease.
The second one is the scintillator. This is the apparatus, that absorbs the incident radiation and then after some time it fluoresces it. Because of this property, they can be used among the radiographic equipments for detection.
However, the most recent radiographic equipments used for detection are the photodiodes. They are fully automatic and they are attached to a monitoring system generally computer. When the emerging X-rays fall on them, they produce electric current and with help of this current, the monitoring system i.e. computer produces an image on the screen.
