Radiographer




The radiographer is an expert who uses radiography for producing images of the internal contents of the body. With the help of these images, the doctors diagnose the problems and then accordingly treat them. Therefore, they are very important in the medical field. Most of the hospitals and other places as clinics, nursing homes have their own radiographers. In addition to this, they also work in the medical laboratories and private industries.

The work of the radiographer: The radiographer’s job includes, the use of the equipments used for the radiography. He should know well, handling them and he should be able to take good images with these equipments. Moreover, he needs to have the basic knowledge of the internal structure of the body.

They should have the skills to work according to the conditions. For example, sometimes the patient cannot move properly to position himself for getting the images and therefore in this case the radiographer has to do the adjustments. For this, he has to apply his skills and take the right radiograph.

In some diseases, it becomes necessary to take images from some different angle than the one, which is the prevalent. Therefore, here the radiographer should have proper knowledge and should know about the problem and therefore adjust accordingly while taking the images.

The types of techniques, that the radiographer works with are, the X-rays, sonography, fluoroscopy, CT scans (computed tomography), MRI (magnetic resonance imaging), and the radiography involving nuclear medicine. All of them are of different types of radiographies and they are to be done by the special types of radiographers.

The radiographer is trained person. A special course is there for the training of aspirants for becoming radiographers. The duration for this course varies according to the institute or the course. They are done after the higher secondary schooling or after the graduation. Their duration ranges from 1 year to 4 years. These courses include the subjects as the anatomy, physiology, physics (general and nuclear), mathematics, radiation physics, pathology, medical imaging, sciences and diagnosis, radiological instrumentation, photographic imaging and the most important of them is the radiodiagnosis.

The radiographers are in great demand in all the parts of the world. Because of this, they receive quite a good salary. They are very important in today’s medical field as the radiography makes it possible to diagnose those problems, which would not have been possible with the other methods. The radiographers are a great help to the doctors as they reduce their work and provide them with the ready reports, which they just have to study, and then diagnose and cure the problem.
