Laser surgery is a surgical procedure to reduce person’s dependency on glasses or contact glasses. This surgical procedure is designed to reshape the surface of cornea, which is necessary to improve your visual capacity. This treatment is used to improve or correct eye’s focus by permanently changing the shape of the cornea to bend light rays onto the retina and enhance the optical power of the eye.

Laser surgery is performed by an excimer laser. It uses a knife called a microkeratome, which is used to cut a flap in the cornea. A pivot is left at one end of this flap. The flap is folded back revealing the stroma the middle section of the cornea. Pulses from a computer controller laser vaporize a portion of the stroma and the flap is replaced. The cornea is an essential part of your eyes and small changes in the anterior curvature will produce relatively large changes in the patient’s overall reflection.

There are many advantages of laser surgery such as you do not need to remove corneal surface tissues so it reduces pain of surgery. It restored postoperative visual acuity within a few days rather than weeks. You do not need to take eye drops. You will get stability within one to three months. Patients who are suffering from high degree of myopia get benefits from laser surgery. This treatment is also useful in many eye anomalies such as astigmatism and hyperemia in the cornea bed and underneath the flap.

Medical treatment laser surgery has some side effects such as some people may loss cornea flap after the operation, some people may suffer slipping of flap and healing of center. Some people may suffer infection in the cornea. Some people may suffer invasion of the surface tissue into the central tissue of the cornea. People may loss some visual capacity. However, laser surgery may depend upon the surgeon’s operating skills as well as computerized precision of the excimer laser being used. Additionally, advice from doctors and accurate measurement of precision of the excimer laser may help people to avoid side effects of laser surgery.

Laser surgery need very little time, usually 30 minutes is sufficient to perform laser surgery. It has found from the survey that about 92 to 98 percent people are satisfied from laser surgery. Due to technical advancements laser surgery is becoming popular among people because it has eliminates risks, which leads to visual impairment after a refractive surgery.
