Due to neo-natal puppy death cases, herpes in dogs is being discussed. In the 2-3 weeks time it is difficult for the body of puppy to regulate temperature of their body and herpes infection causes the puppy to die. In the later stage when puppy starts to regulate and control its body temperature and fever can be controlled and the disease no longer exists it is replace with respiratory problems. The herpes infection is not much talked about in adult dogs. Whenever it is talked, it is in relevance to the breeding practice of the bitch who already had had delivered puppies infected with herpes.

According to the recent publication it has been found the herpes infection in dogs is very much similar to the infection in horses, and the name of the disease is Rhino. It is characterised by problem in respiration in most of the cases and is even seen in pregnant mares. The disease my lead to cough or snort and nasal discharge and may reduce even power to exercise. In mild cases the horse is not vaccinated. The vaccination is must to be given every four months to avoid the contact of disease RHINO as the medication for common cold does not give immunity for a longer period. Rhino also causes abortion.

The later stage herpes in dogs, the respiratory one is minimal and attention is not given to combat the disease. However the infection can spread via aerosols on you clothing. Sneezing frequently by a dog does not show any sign of the disease but if the same activity is repeated very often then there is a danger of the disease being contracted.

Antibiotics have to be avoided as herpes being a viral infection and should only be started when secondary infection of the bacteria is seen. When there is a doubt, if the deaths are caused by virus or bacterial infection then antibiotics may be appropriate. The sign of pregnancy vanishes if the bitch shows positive for the virus before breeding. The virus passes to the puppies when they pass through the birth canal.

Herpes infection may not result in death sometimes but low birth weight or still puppies may result. The internal organs may pose a risk of being getting damage. It is believed that herpes in adult dogs tends to go dormant as in humans and it resurfaces and may become lethal due to stress and emotional problem. Herpes infection has not only affected human but other species also. The progressive thought of the doctors will soon lead to discovery of a vaccine which will help to cure herpes infection.
