Herpes Encephalitis

Herpes is a viral disease caused by HSV-1 also called herpes simplex virus. The percentage of the infected people is increasing day by day. The HSV-1 virus can also cause herpes encephalitis and in adults the primary infection gets noticed easily. The virus may get reactivated and can be caused to any age group. Approximate 90% of people show temporal lobe involvement symptoms. The symptoms starts from headache and fever and is followed by changes in the behaviour and depression. Atypical cases have been found in patients without focal features. 20% of the herpes encephalitis takes the course of atypical form. Encephalitis is basically inflammation of brain or parts in relation to the brain. For the disease virus is the main causing agent. The virus for this may be divided into two parts: the one which enters the human body and doesn’t invade till it is carried by the blood stream to the nerve cells of the brain and second which enter the human body and infect the non-nervous tissue and then move towards invading the nerve cells.

The symptoms for the disease are drowsiness, fever, fatigue, sleepiness, lethargy, tremors. Herpes encephalitis is more dangerous than the other disease as it affects the brain. The herpes is sexually transmitted disease which can spread from skin to skin contact with the infected person. Moreover it is difficult to acknowledge if the person is suffering from the disease as sometimes the symptoms are not visible. And people even prefer to hide the status of the disease as it affects their reputation in the society and even with their partner. Proper care has to be taken in the case if the partner is infected with the virus. When the symptoms are visible then it can be easily avoided. The symptoms start from red dots and blisters around the genital area or the oral facial area. The two virus associated with the disease are HSV-1 and HSV-2. The HSV-2 being the dangerous one.

With proper medication the disease can be treated but once the virus affects the body it is difficult for the body to remove it. The virus stay for lifelong inside the body and gets reactivated in intervals. But the frequency of the virus attack is reduced and the pain from the outbreaks is also reduced. In US and Australia 255 of people are being affected by the herpes disease. The best way to get rid of the virus and the disease is to follow certain precautionary measures and go for regular checkups.
