Herpes is a disease which is caused by viral infection and even sexually transmitted disease which has no cure but can be prevented if certain precautions are followed. In United States and Australia 25% of women are affected with the disease and 20% of men are affected with the disease. The virus responsible is herpes Simplex Virus (HSV). Nearly 1 million people in America become infected every year. Herpes and signs sometimes don’t go together. It becomes difficult to notice the signs or symptoms of herpes as the virus might have just entered the human body. 80% of infections go unnoticed as the herpes and signs are not visible for months and sometimes for years.

Herpes and signs for people being infected may show tiny blisters and red dots around the genital area of both male and female which is referred to as genital herpes. Swollen glands, body aches and fever. The sign of itching, tingling, leg pain and burning are also seen.

Blisters can also appear on buttocks and even lesions can be seen on buttocks and area surrounding the male and female genitals, the vagina, the penis, the mouth, the rectum and even found near the area surrounding the trachea, or on the skin anywhere.

Cases have been found of Herpes Simplex virus or HSV infecting the brain in the babies and this infection is acquired during delivery and can lead to serious medical consequences. If proper care is taken the disease can be prevented and risk can be minimised. The disease pass on to babies if any one of the partner is infected with the virus and as the disease is sexually transmitted therefore proper consultancy should be taken from the gynaecologist or obstetrician for the necessary precautions if the women is pregnant or the plan is to become pregnant.

Primary infection cannot be noticed as the symptoms are not shown. If sexual contact happens with the infected person then it takes approximate 30 days for the virus to become effective. The outbreaks which occur in the beginning are more dangerous than the outbreaks which occur later in the life. After the first outbreak the symptoms go unnoticed and remain inactive.

The signs and symptoms might be easy to distinguish but due to similarity of symptoms with various other disease and different treatments are suggested. Well qualified doctors must be consulted and proper medical diagnosis should be done. Herpes antibody test s must be carried out. Here the proverb prevention is better than cure must be followed.
