Herpes both genitals and oral is a virus and is a disease which is highly communicable is of two types: Herpes simplex virus one (HSV-1) and herpes simplex virus two (HSV-2). Sexual relation is one of the causes of genital herpes and it transmits to new born child from the pregnant mother but it happens rarely. If it is transferred to the child then it is very dangerous for the child which could even cause death. If the virus is transmitted to the child from the pregnant mother though placenta it’s possible that a miscarriage may occur or the child born has a defect.

The transmission of herpes virus to the new born baby from the pregnant mother also depends upon the stage of virus. If the genitals herpes are develop in the body of mother in the initial stage i.e. first trimester of pregnancy then it could develop antibodies which usually take four to five weeks to build up in the mother’s body and it will transmit to the baby’s body also at the time of normal delivery and hence will have less chance of being infected by the virus.

But the case is different if the women have got the herpes in there body in there pregnancy’s second or third trimester. In fact the doctors advise caesarian delivery as in such short time antibodies are not develop by the body ands hence chances are very high of transmission.

It is better if the herpes are prevented as they there cure is difficult a process. Genital herpes is as sexually transmitted disease hence care should be taken at the time of pregnancy as the transmission of this virus to new born takes place when the mother is infected by this virus during pregnancy.

If the woman notices herpes when they are pregnant they should tell the doctor immediately. Some of the important guidelines for the pregnant mothers in dealing with herpes virus, especially genital herpes.

Neonatal herpes can lead your baby to death. When the baby is travel ling through birth canal he could be infected by virus from the infected mother. Hence care should be taken by taking antiviral medicines during pregnancy if infected by the virus which could reduce the frequency of outbreaks.

The children who get the virus from mother and are given antiviral medicines during birth are born normally with no problem. But others who don’t get the medicine suffer from neurological disorders, mental retardation and could cause death even. If the partner suffers from genitals herpes then he should take special care during this time as it can be transmitted to pregnant mother.

If premature delivery of baby takes place then he is at higher risk of getting virus as the baby wouldn’t have enough time to absorb antibodies from mother.
