One way to cope with hair loss is to make good use of hairstyling techniques to help cover your hair loss. Hair loss can be thinning hair or patches of balding or one larger bald spot on top of the head.

Obviously if you have one small bald spot on top of your head you can wear a toupee, hairpieces, hair weaves or wigs or you could part your hair on the side and comb it over the bald spot. You can also wear a hat such as a baseball cap like so many youth are seen doing even when inside buildings. Hats and other accessories can be helpful but are often not practical in all circumstances such as when you are at work.

Typically if you have patchy balding hair, the shorter hairstyles will look best. You can choose to clip or cut your hair yourself or you can seek out a professional hairstylist who can help you to find the right hairstyle to address your hair loss problem area.

The do-it-yourself hairstyle is always an option. This hairstyle basically involves combing or sweeping the hair around the bald spot over the area in an attempt to cover it up. Sometimes especially if the hair is only thinning or the bald area is really small; this can actually work to mask the hair loss problem.

Let us not forget another obvious hairstyle for the individual experiencing hair loss and that is to embrace the baldness by shaving the rest of the hair and going completely bald. Most see this as a bit radical, but it can also look very distinctive, look at Montel!

You can choose to wear a wig and be able to change not only the appearance of thinning or balding hair but you can change hair length or color too.

Hair transplants is another way to go if you really want to make the problem disappear. Transplant surgery can be expensive and a painful option. This option allows for actual hair growth in areas of the scalp in which there is no growth due to follicle death.

Most neighborhood hairstylists and barbers will gladly consult with you regarding the best hairstyles for your hair loss situation. They can cut and shape your hair to cover thinning hair or patchy hair loss.

There are many books that you can buy or take out of the library that address the issue of hair loss and alternatives to medications. These books discuss hair techniques including replacement hair, wigs, toupees and other hair attachments that add to the natural hair on your scalp.

Here is just a sample of some of the titles you will find as you browse the bookshelves for books about hair loss options:

Books -

Hair: Surviving the Fall by Sara Romweber includes information about present and future treatments for the regrowth of hair; wigs, wig bands, hair extensions, toupees, rugs and other choices for hairstyling cover-ups.
