Glaucoma is a disease of the eye where the optic nerve is injured due to the rise in the internal fluid pressure. This pressure is because of the insufficient fluid drainage from your eyes. It causes the wear and tear of the optic nerve. As a result, the visual information as well as visual image is disturbed due to the damage to the optic nerve. If this condition is left untreated, it may lead to permanent vision loss. So early diagnosis and treatment is necessary.

Causes- Different disorders of the eye lead to high pressure of the eye. The eye pressure is increased if the internal fluid of the eye is not drained adequately due to some form of blockage in the eye. The continuous production of this fluid and obstacle in the drainage process makes the fluid pressure rise in the eye. The eye pressure can also be raised with disorders related to bleeding, aging, inflammation, injury, infection or birth defects.

The most effective treatment is by using prescribed eye drops and medicines regularly. If the case is severe and the medications are not enough to reduce the pressure of fluid in the eye, then it may require laser therapy or surgery for early recovery.
