This herpes occurs mainly due to the reactivation of the virus which was other wise dormant for long and was found in the facial nerves. In many of the cases the virus is inactive but the reason being unknown it activates again and spread to nerves.

It is fortunate that this eye herpes is not harmful in many cases, but certain symptoms like redness in eyes, slight pain and sensitivity towards light are causing discomfort. The extent of damage depends upon the deepness to which the virus has enter the cornea of eye. The herpes not only affects cornea but it could cause infection in retina and inside of eye but this infection is rarely found. Herpes uveitis is the name given to the infection cause by virus to inside of eye, while herpes retinitis is name given when the virus infect the retina of eye. Both the herpes are of severe nature.

There are treatments for the person suffering from eye herpes and the treatment depends upon the sever ness of the virus that has infected the eye. The doctors prescribe the eye drops that are anti viral to the patients who suffer or are minor ally infected by virus, which could fight with the virus. If the infection is severe then the doctor wipes away the cells that are infected from cornea.
