Radiography is the process that uses ionized electromagnetic radiations to locate body objects. Radiography used in the diagnosis of diseases and called as diagnostic radiography. This therapy involves two types of radiations that are ionizing or non-ionizing radiations. However, predominant tests in the radiography use X-rays that are ionizing radiations. X-rays are the electromagnetic radiations in radiography. These are second commonly used radiations for medical tests beside the laboratory tests.
X-rays are used in the test to expose internal structure of the body on films. Imaging films emphasize conflicts of body part using attenuation. Attenuation is the process in which x-ray photons are absorbed by denser body parts. In the creation of images, body part is exposed to the electromagnetic radiations in radiography and images are captured from resulting remainder beam. Images are in the form of shadow; these shadows are then converted in light with the help of fluorescent screen.
To bring images in viewable form, images on fluorescent screen are captured on photographic films. This process of imaging is comparatively low coast examination that yields effective result. To capture the images according to the body part, x-rays are given in different amount. Denser body parts like bones need high does of electromagnetic radiations in radiography. On the other hand, soft tissues of lungs and heart require fewer amounts of x-ray radiations.
In some cases as dental radiography, does of electromagnetic radiations in radiography needs in low amount but with high penetration. All these doses are necessary while exposing the body parts to get high resolution in the images. Electromagnetic radiations are useful in various tests like DEXA, CT scanning. Besides X-rays, other electromagnetic radiations in radiography are also useful in various tests. In nuclear medicines, radioactive isotopes are used, where as in sonography, ultra sound waves are used to diagnose diseases.
All these are newly invented technologies but in early days, only x-rays were in used to diagnose diseases. Use of radiography started in the year of 1895 in the form of x-rays. Roentgen first invented x-rays and later on James Maxwell and Heinrich Hertz studied in detail about electromagnetic rays in radiography.
