Do you have burning, painful, dry and tired eyes? Do you experience that something is pricking in them like sand or a hair, etc.? Then you could probably have Dry Eye Irritation.

A little bit of irritation due to dry eyes is experienced by everybody sometimes in the life. All of a sudden, your eyes may become scratchy and red or there will be a blurred vision. It may cause due to anything either due to pollution, lots of exposure to the eyes or due to the side-effects of certain medicines prescribed by the doctor. For others, dry eye irritation is caused due to the lack of sufficient production of tears in the eyes. And thus this causes a lot of frustration.

Dry eye irritation begins with minor ailments. But before your eyes gets physically damaged, it is necessary to get it treated with the proper products. Your cornea is protected and moisturized by a very thin film of tears, coating your eyes. These tears help to sustain your eye-sight, which are an important component of your body’s balance system. Dry eye irritation can cause scar ness or ulceration of the cornea, if neglected, which will ultimately lead to loss of sight.

Symptoms of Dry Eye Irritation

1. Excessive rubbing and tearing of the eye.
2. Burning sensation in the eye
3. The eye becomes itchy, red or sore.
4. Blurred vision.
5. Feeling of grittiness, like something is pricking in the eye.
6. Frequent watering and eye infections.

Treatment for Dry Eye Irritation

I. Artificial tears- the body’s natural balance of water and oil is stimulated by artificial tears. The bottled tears may contain preservatives which may cause irritation in the eye, and so preservative-free tears are recommended. These preservative-free artificial tears are available in disposable and individual packets for single use only. These tears are expensive. Some people have to use them within a period of one hour or even more frequently, depending upon their levels of irritation.

II. Punctual plugs- The “punctum” in one or either of the eyelids can be closed. As a result the tears are drained in to the nose via a small opening, the punctum. A tiny plug is inserted into the opening of the eye to retain the tears on the surface of the eye, and thus prevent dryness and irritation of the eye.

If you experience dryness, itchy red or burning eyes frequently, then it is essential to concern a qualified eye specialist to avoid further damages to the eye or your eye sight.
