Computed radiography is a modern form of radiography. Every field is wearing new clothes in term of computerization, so as the field of radiography. It is very identical to traditional radiography. The only difference is that in place of film to create the image. An image plate is used.

Radiography word reminds you a darken room and chemical trays. But in computer radiography the imaging plate is run through a computer scanner to read and digitize the image.

Computer radiography makes your job easier and faster. Here software is used to view and enhance the image. This software functions same as conventional image-processing software like brightness, contrast and zoom.

The main difference between computed radiography and direct radiography is the use of image plate. What happens in the computed radiography? First of all images are taken through the equipment. A scanning laser beam makes the electron to relax to lower energy levels, when the plate is put through the scanner. It emits light that is calculated to compute the digital image. The good thing is that you can reuse the imaging plate number of times if you handle it carefully. To erase the image, simply you have to expose to room level fluorescent light.

Industrial applications for computed radiography include corrosion surveys on pipes, often during insulation, examination of valves for erosion, information shots on industrial components; e.g. inspecting to see if a valve is closed correctly, or checking for barriers in valves and pipes and examination of boiler water walls. It is significantly used for industrial application.

Computed radiography is so comfortable, no films, no chemicals only a computer and software is all what it takes. Where conventional radiography takes seven minutes to create the image, computed radiography does the work in one minute.

In computed radiography, a wide range of thicknesses can be checked in one shot by adjusting image brightness. Computed radiography takes fewer re-shots compared to conventional one. One more advantage is that images can be stored on the disk.
