There are many causes for hair loss, some of which occur on a regular basis as part of the growth and rest cycle that all normal hair goes through, other causes stem from issues that are not normal and are a result of illness or hormonal imbalances. It is important to explore the causes of hair loss to determine if what you are experiencing is normal or something that you should be concerned about and explore further with your doctor.

Did you know that you could actually stimulate hair loss when you use certain hair products such as hot oil treatments and chemicals used in permanents? These products can cause inflammation of the hair follicles which could than result in scarring and hair loss. Scarring of the scalp can also be caused by pigtails, cornrows or tight hair rollers all of which these things can pull on your hair which cause traction alopecia. This constant pulling of the hair causes permanent hair loss.

Other things can lead to hair loss such as illnesses like diabetes, and cancer. Hormonal imbalances can lead to hair loss too. Pregnant women will first notice that hair does not fall out as often as before the pregnancy because the hair is in the growth stage and does not fall out even after the rest stage as it normally does. However, after the hormonal fluctuations of pregnancy subside all the hair that was holding off on falling out will fall out at the same time and the woman may brush her hair only to find tons of hair in her brush.

Certain medications can also cause hair loss such as anticoagulants, antidepressants and drugs used in chemotherapy. Individuals who take too much vitamin A may also develop hair loss.

Individuals, who have undergone major surgery, experienced an illness or stress can also discover that they are losing more hair than normal. Diseases such as lupus, can have hair loss as a symptom of the disease so the fact that you are losing hair may actually be a sign that you should not ignore if you want to do all you can to preserve your health.

Those who have scalp fungal infections can also experience hair loss as a result of the infection. Children often get these scalp infections. After taking antifungal medications and the scalp infection is under control the hair loss subsides and hair growth returns to normal.

Hair loss that results from illness or stress usually returns to a normal pattern of growth and rest after the illness subsides or the stress dissipates.

Did you know that you could use hair products thinking that you are doing something good for your hair such as using hot oil hair products only to find out that using these products on a consistent basis can lead to hair loss due to inflammation of the scalp?
