Finding out what your options are regarding preventing or stopping the hair loss is critical to those touched by this situation.

Your doctor will review your medical records, conduct a physical examination, discuss your medical and family history and perhaps run tests to determine what the cause of your hair loss might be. The cause or perhaps even multiple causes will then help to determine what may be done to stop your current hair loss situation and prevent any future hair loss. Females who are suffering from hair loss will also explore recent pregnancies, the history if any of taking birth control pills or any hormonal replacement therapies, and be tested for hormonal imbalances that may help to prevent further hair loss.

The good news is that there are medications that can be prescribed as well as over-the-counter (OTC) medications made for hair loss problems. These medications may take as long as six months before you will see any results, to gage if they are working so patience is indeed a virtue when it comes to hair loss treatment and prevention.

Medications are not the only option you have for treating hair loss. You can also look into using artificial hair replacement, hairpieces, hair weaves and wigs for the purpose of covering up thinning hair or bald spots on your scalp.

Your doctor may refer you to a registered dietician or a nutritionist in order to construct a healthy diet for you to follow. It has been determined that sometimes hair loss occurs as a result of certain vitamin deficiencies or by other dietary habits such as taking in too much caffeine. Discussing these dietary issues may help to reduce the hair loss.

Prevention is always preferable to curing in most cases so it is no surprise that there is much talk about what can be done before hair loss occurs to prevent it from happening.

One thing that scientists have discovered is that eating sulphur-rich foods such as fish, meant, nuts, legumes, vegetables and eggs and some vegetables such as onions can help keep your hair healthy by promoting circulation and decreasing the occurrence of inflammation that can lead to hair loss.

If you suffer from brittle hair and nails or dry skin you may have a sulphuric deficiency. Individuals with sore joints, sore muscles, headaches, allergies, fatigue and those who suffer from diabetes may also have a deficiency of the element MSM which can also be key to hair loss. Taking a supplement of MSM can prevent future hair loss and can give you strong healthy hair, successfully preventing future hair loss.

Related posts:

Stopping Or Treating Hair Loss Your doctor may be able to stop your hair loss...

Anxious About Preventing Or Coping With Hair Loss Does hair loss run in your family or you suspect...

Preventing Hair Loss Tips For Everyone It is never too early to learn how to prevent...

Information You Can Use About Stopping Or Treating The Problem Of Hair Loss It is possible to stop or treat hair loss problems...

Tips To Follow For Stopping Hair Loss There are many causes for hair loss and several ways...

Diagnosis And Treatment Of Hair Loss

Hair Loss

Doctors can diagnosis, determine the cause of and treat hair loss by looking at your head, scalp and hair, and by asking medical questions regarding recent and current illnesses and medications that yRelated posts:

Getting A Diagnosis And Treating Your Hair Loss Problem Hair loss can be an embarrassing problem. Doctors use both the Hamilton and the Ludwig classification charts when classifying the hair loss. If the doctor is uncertain about the cause of the hair loss there may be blood tests ordered or a biopsy of the scalp. Skin problems can lead to hair loss, so the doctor may have to do further evaluation regarding skin conditions. A microscopic examination of tissue from your scalp may help the doctor to diagnose a fungal scalp infection. Lupus is another skin condition that may affect hair loss.

Treating hair loss will depend upon the cause. Causes can vary as well as present several factors such as stress, poor appetite, medication adverse effect, and the presence of disease. If illness is a factor, treating the disease usually will clear up the hair loss.

Treatment may include medications, therapy for stress, proper diet, and also medications. Hairpieces, new hairstyles, replacement hair and artificial hair are all options. Your doctor may prescribe Propecia, Proscar, Rogaine, Loniten, even testosterone depending on the diagnosis. It is important to read all medication labels, follow advice from the doctor or pharmacist. You may want to speak with your doctor about hair transplants where the doctor take a plug of hair from other areas of your scalp and transplant the hair to the thinning area. Scalp rotation can be done for children but not for adults, as adults do not respond well to scalp rotation. Your doctor will ask you to make follow-up appointments to gage how you are responding to treatment.

Your doctor may speak with you about preventing future hair loss. You may be able to make lifestyle changes that may improve the condition of your hair such as changing to a shampoo that does not contain soap, not overusing hair dryers, hair dyes, styling products or curling irons which can all irritate or inflame the scalp, or cause breakage to your hair.

Your doctor may also speak with you about your diet and any stress in your life as these two factors can also influence hair loss. If your diet is lacking in nutrition, your doctor may refer you to a licensed dietician or a nutritionist. Psychological counseling may be prescribed for you if stress is determined to be causing your hair loss.

Your doctor can guide you when it comes to self-help changes such as what hair care products to use, minimizing damage to your hair when using styling equipment and treatments, and improving your diet. If need be, your doctor can explore other medical possibilities for the cause of your hair loss.

Related posts:

Getting A Diagnosis And Treating Your Hair Loss Problem Hair loss can be an embarrassing problem. There are medical, surgical and cosmetic treatments for hair loss.

Medical Hair Loss Remedy

Medical treatment consists of using medication to stop or prevent hair loss from getting worse.

Two medications commonly prescribed for hair loss is finasteride (Propecia and Proscar), and minoxidil (Rogaine, and Loniten). Finasteride is used for male hair loss and not for hair loss in women and Minoxidil is used for both male and female hair loss.

Surgical Hair Loss Remedy

A popular surgical hair loss remedy is a hair transplant. This is where a doctor will take plugs of healthy hair from other areas of your scalp and place them on the areas where you have thinning hair or no hair.

The surgical treatment that is currently replacing hair plugs is follicular transplants.

Scalp rotation is used in cases where children have hair loss but it does not work well in adults.

Cosmetic Hair Loss Remedy

There are many things that individuals can do that are considered to be cosmetic hair loss remedies such as changing hairstyles to one that covers thinning hair, or wearing hair pieces such as hair weaves, toupees, or wigs. Creative people also find ways to make a statement using hats or scarves.

Winding it up

When an individual has hair loss he or she needs to know that there are options for treating the hair loss including a combination of medical, surgical and cosmetic treatments. All of these options can be discussed between the patient and doctor or dermatologist so that the treatment choices can be explored and the individual can choose what fits best in his or her lifestyle. Not everyone is comfortable with surgery, nor does everyone like taking medications. Treatments can be made individualized to fit the needs of the one with the hair loss. This is especially important when the person is young.

The treatment choice will also depend upon the cause or causes for the hair loss as sometimes medication is necessary such as when a disease is the cause. New treatments are always being tested so hair loss patients should periodically check back with their doctor or dermatologist to find out if there are any new medical, surgical or cosmetic treatments that can benefit their hair loss situation.

Whether you choose to use a medical, surgical or cosmetic hair loss treatment or a combination of treatments, know that most hair loss situations are temporary and that should your case turn out to be permanent, you always have options. Seek out current information, get involved in hair loss organizations and support groups and keep in touch with your doctor or dermatologist so that your options will always be known to you.

Related posts:

Seeking Medical Advise About Your Hair Loss You have seen the loose hair in the shower drain,...

Diagnosis And Treatment Of Hair Loss Doctors can diagnosis, determine the cause of and treat hair...

When Should You Seek Medical Care For Hair Loss As many as 50% of all men and women living...

Getting A Diagnosis And Treating Your Hair Loss Problem Hair loss can be an embarrassing problem. When should you seek medical care for hair loss? Are there certain signs or symptoms that signal a need to see the doctor?

Basically if you experience any of the following signs or symptoms at the same time that you experience hair loss it is a good idea to see your doctor or a dermatologist:

If you notice that you are confused

You have a poor appetite

You are constipated or have diarrhea

You experience difficulty breathing

You have an unexplained weight loss

Vomiting

Fever

You have unexplained pain

Skin issues that are not usual for you

While hair loss in of itself is not an emergency, if it is severe or there are serious signs of illness along with the hair loss it can signal that there may be a serious illness present that would need medical attention.

The doctor will take a history of symptoms, medications that you have been taking, what your general health has been and family medical history. There will be testing that may include blood, urine, scalp sampling to determine the presence of an infection or scalp irritation. If the symptoms are severe tests such as x-rays may also be performed.

A good rule of thumb for if you should seek medical attention for any symptom including hair loss is if you are uncomfortable doing normal daily tasks (such as breathing difficulties), or if you are in unexplained pain, or has a fever that lasts longer than 24 hours and is unexplained. Most individuals seek a doctor’s advice when they do not know why they are having a symptom. Older individuals may expect to experience hair loss but someone in their teens or twenties may not and so for them it is out of the ordinary and they are more likely to seek the help of a doctor or a dermatologist.

If you are experiencing hair loss and you want to know how to stop it or treat it, that would be a good reason to seek medical care. A doctor can find the cause of the hair loss so that you can begin proper treatment for the exact problem that is causing your hair loss.

If you have family history of hair loss and you are more than 50 years of age you may expect to see hair loss in the mirror versus someone who has no history in the family of hair loss and is less than 40 years of age.

Another time in which someone may seek a doctor’s opinion about hair loss is when it occurs suddenly and when large amounts of hair fall out. Basically anything unusual or anything that raises alarm bells to go off should prompt a person to seek medical care for hair loss.

Related posts:

Seeking Medical Advise About Your Hair Loss You have seen the loose hair in the shower drain,...

Medical Surgical And Cosmetic Treatment For Hair Loss Hair loss can be embarrassing and seeking treatment is something...

Comparing Normal Hair Growth To Hair Loss It is sometimes helpful when dealing with hair loss issues...

Can Stress Really Cause Me To Suffer Hair Loss We all know the caricature of a person pulling out...

How Do You Cope With Hair Loss Are you coping with hair loss now or have you...

Can You Think Of Anything That Causes Hair Loss

Hair Loss

Do you suffer from hair loss? Hair loss happens to all of us on a regular basis. Our hair goes through a growth phase and then a resting phase followed by loss of that hair. This hair loss occurs in anyone with normal hair. What makes hair loss a concern is when it occurs excessively leaving bald spots or thinning hair.

We inadvertently contribute to hair loss when we use hot oil treatment, chemicals that are used in perms and curling irons and electric hair dryer. These hair care products when used can result in scarring of the follicle and scalp area and hair loss.

There are actually things that we do to our hair that can cause hair loss such as using harsh chemicals on our scalp such as those in permanents and hair coloring products as well as when we use hot oil treatments. These types of products cause inflammation of the hair follicles on our scalp, which can then lead to scarring. This scarring can result in hair loss. We sometimes use hair accessories that pull our hair too much, causing “traction alopecia”. This is a condition in which the hair is pulled so tightly that it irritates the surrounding skin on the scalp. The irritation can cause scarring such as in between the rows of tight cornrows, or around where a ponytail is too tight or when hair rollers are left in for long periods of time and are too tight. This can cause permanent hair loss!

Other causes of hair loss include having illnesses that have symptoms of hair loss like diabetes or lupus or diseases in which the treatment can lead to hair loss such as cancers. A hormonal imbalance such as what happens in pregnancy or when women are on birth control pills or going through pre-menopause or when they are in menopause. All of these situations where imbalances of hormones can take place can trigger hair loss. Certain medications can have a side effect of hair loss such as those medications used to treat depression, drugs used in chemotherapy, anticoagulants. If individuals take too much vitamin A in supplements they can also experience hair loss.

Stress is another major cause for hair loss. Individuals suffering a loss of a loved one such as a family member or close friend can experience hair loss from the emotional stress. Physical stress such as undergoing major surgery, or suffering a serious injury can also cause enough stress to experience hair loss. Mental stress such as when we are in long periods of financial distress can also result in hair loss.

Infections are another situation in which hair loss can take place. Children often experience scalp infections such as Ringworm that often results in hair loss. Antifungal medications can be given to treat these infections often resulting in a return of hair growth. In fact hair loss that is a result of stress, infection or as a side effect of an illness often can result in new hair growth.

I bet you are now thinking of many things that you do that could result in hair loss. Thinking about these things is a good thing because we can change habits so that we can prevent hair loss from occurring in the future.

Related posts:

Causes For Hair Loss There are many causes for hair loss, some of which...

Comparing Normal Hair Growth To Hair Loss It is sometimes helpful when dealing with hair loss issues...

Understanding Why You Have Hair Loss Your hair has a normal pattern of growth that lasts...

There Are Many Types Of Hair Loss There is just not one type of hair loss. Another thing that children, men and women can have in common is hair loss. Have you ever thought that perhaps there may be a connection?

Have you noticed thinning hair or areas of your scalp that are more scalp than hair? If you suffer from hair loss there may be many reasons for it including poor diet, a side effect of a medication, heredity, a symptom of a condition or illness and stress. Yes, stress can cause hair loss.

We experience stress in a physical manner such as when our bodies are traumatized in an accident or we can experience emotional stress such as when a family member dies. Another stress is mental stress such as when we become stressed out over an out of balance checkbook.

The stress we encounter in our lives can result in two types of hair loss. One is classified as telogen effluvium and the other alopecia areata.

Of the two types of hair loss we can encounter as a result of stress telogen effluvium is the less severe form of hair loss. Telogen effluvium presents as hair that stops growing and remains in the resting stage for 2 to 3 months. This “dormant” hair will then fall out and be replaced by new hair growth within 6 to 9 months. The length of time it takes to have new hair growth will depend upon the condition of your scalp, and what has caused your hair to fall out in the first place.

Alopecia areata occurs when white blood cells attack the hair follicles. Several weeks after the attack of white cells, hair will fall out in patches. Individuals who have alopecia areata can also have hair loss over the entire scalp hair. Alopecia is not limited to the hair on your scalp it can happen with any of your body hair.

You can experience more than one hair loss factor at the same time along with the stress factor.

If you are wondering how to know if your hair loss is caused by stress or not, have a talk with your doctor. In order to determine if your hair loss is caused by stress, your doctor will give you a physical examination and will take a current medical history.

If you are not sure what can cause stress in your life take a look at this list and see if any of these things have happened to you over the last 6 months:

You have experienced one or more major life changes such as a job change, moving, a marriage or a divorce, the birth of a child or the death of a child, the loss of any family member or long-time friend.

Related posts:

Can Stress Really Cause Me To Suffer Hair Loss We all know the caricature of a person pulling out...

Getting A Grip On The Many Types Of Hair Loss Hair loss can take many forms and the causes of...

Important Facts You Should Know About Hair Loss Are you facing hair loss and searching for facts about...

There Are Many Types Of Hair Loss There is just not one type of hair loss. Are you curious about which illnesses can induce hair loss? Many people understand the power of knowledge and believe that knowing a head of time your risk factor for hair loss because of an illness or condition that you already have can be valuable and allow time for prevention techniques to lower your risk. Here are some short summaries of some illnesses that can induce hair loss.

Malnutrition is a condition in which an individual does not receive enough vital nutrients in the foods they eat. Poor nutrition can lead to hair loss.

Sometimes poor hair condition, such as hair that is brittle and thin can be a symptom of a disease such as hypothyroidism.

Systematic Lupus Erythematosus is a chronic autoimmune disease that can lead to excess hair loss.

If you have a zinc deficiency, that can lead to having thinned hair because of a slow-down in the growth cycle of hair.

If an individual suffers from an eating disorder such as anorexia or bulimia, these disorders can lead to hair loss or thinning of hair.

People who develop cellulitis, which is a skin infection, can have acute inflammation as a result of the infection, which can then lead to hair loss.

A shock to your system that can be caused by any illness can change the body chemistry, which could then lead to hair loss. Many individuals miss the connection between the shock and the hair loss because the hair loss can occur some 2 to 3 months after the shock or severe stress has occurred. Some examples of a shock to the system or a severe stress would be when a person has a high fever, has given birth, has a nutritional deficiency, hypothyroidism, or has gone through chemotherapy. When hair loss is the result of any of the above conditions the hair loss is said to be diffuse hair loss or, “telogen effluvium”. When hair loss is the result of severe stress or shock it may take as much as 3 months before the person has recovered sufficiently to see a return of new hair growth.

Cellulitis is where there is a skin infection that can possibly lead to hair loss.

Pregnancy is not an illness but it can induce hair loss from 3 to 6 months after the baby is born, noticeable thinning hair is possible to experience as a result of fluctuating hormones. The condition is called postpartum shedding. Because the pregnant body has a high level of estrogen, there is no hair loss going on during the pregnancy. Once the baby is born the hormone levels drop so that the body then becomes something to be watched. The good news is that this particular condition, called, “postpartum shedding” is only a temporary condition and once resolved hair will return to before baby version.

Related posts:

Can You Think Of Anything That Causes Hair Loss Do you suffer from hair loss? Medications used to treat epilepsy and depression can also cause hair loss. The medications commonly causing hair loss that are used to treat depression are prozac, paxil, nafranil, norpramin, ventyl, and vivactil.

Did you know that even diet pills such as amphetamines could cause hair loss?

Medications used to treat glaucoma such as timoptic eye drops, timoptic ocudose and timoptic XC can also cause hair loss.

Medications used to treat many heart ailments such as inderal, inderal LA, lopressor, and tenormin can also cause hair loss.

It is also surprising that something that is so commonly used such as birth control pills can cause hair loss. Other hormonal medications such as those used in hormonal replacement therapy (HRT), prednisone and other drugs such as steroids can cause hair loss.

Another commonly used group of drugs, those used to relieve pain or to reduce the swelling form injuries such as nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs and arthritis medications can all cause hair loss. The drugs used in chemotherapy can also cause hair loss such as folex, methotrexate, and rheumatex.

Medications used to treat certain diseases and disorders such as parkinson’s disease, thyroid disorders, and ulcers can also cause hair loss.

It is important that if you are taking any of these medications that you listen carefully when your doctor tells you about the medications including dosage and side effects. If you experience unusual hair loss, notify your doctor immediately so that adjustments or changes can be made to your medication therapy. It is important that you not make any adjustments on your own to your medications without your doctor’s advise.

Typically once the medication is stopped or changed the hair loss will stop. Eventually the hair growth cycle will continue. If not, your doctor can help you to add medications or therapy to your treatment plan that will stimulate improved blood circulation to the scalp area, which may stimulate hair growth.

Although medication is clearly important to the treatment of medical conditions it can also have side effects such as hair loss which can be concerning to individuals who care about appearances. Discussing your concerns with your doctor or dermatologist can help to find solutions to any problems that the medications can have on hair loss for you. Medication can aid by healing and providing pain relief but it can also have adverse side effects such as hair loss. Understanding the role medication has in hair loss will help you to deal with this problem.

Related posts:

The Connection Between Certain Medications And Hair Loss Did you know that certain medications that you may be...

Comparing Normal Hair Growth To Hair Loss It is sometimes helpful when dealing with hair loss issues...

Stopping Or Treating Hair Loss Your doctor may be able to stop your hair loss...

Information You Can Use About Stopping Or Treating The Problem Of Hair Loss It is possible to stop or treat hair loss problems...

Can You Think Of Anything That Causes Hair Loss Do you suffer from hair loss? Taking care to learn ways of prevention may be as easy as reading this article.

Healthy hair could mean less risk for hair loss later in life. Make a point to form good hair care habits such as eating nutrition meals and snacks that give your body the nutrition needed for healthy hair growth. Be gentle to your hair to avoid hair damage that may over time contribute to hair loss. When you rub, pull or twist your hair on a consistent basis you may be creating a situation ripe for hair loss. Learn what over-the-counter medications or prescription medications may have adverse affect that may cause hair loss.

Good nutrition is often the foundation for a healthy body no matter what condition or disease you are trying to prevent. Good nutrition gives your body the vitamins and minerals that it needs to be strong and to fight off infection.

It is important to learn good hair habits right from the start so that you can avoid hair breakage that may lead to hair loss. If you abuse your hair with tugging and pulling while combing or using electrical hair dryers, and pulling it too tight when putting it up into a bun, braid or ponytail can end up with breakage, split ends, and early hair loss.

Many factors lead to unhealthy hair including smoking, stress, not exercising and poor nutrition. It is also important to get plenty of sleep. Avoid any hair care product that contains alcohol because it can dry out your hair. Styling products applied to the scalp can clog the pores of your scalp, which may lead to hair loss. Swimming in chlorinated water can damage your hair so wet your hair with plain water before going into the chlorinated pool water. If you do not wear a protective cap while swimming in chlorinated water, then it is important to shampoo and condition your hair as soon as you get out. Using hot air to dry your hair can cause damage. You can dry your hair on the cooler setting and still dry the hair without damaging it.

When you are being prescribed medication always ask whether or not hair loss is a side effect of the medication before you start taking it. If the doctor or pharmacist says that hair loss is a side effect, then ask for another medication to replace the one that may cause hair loss.

When you take the time to explore options, and learn what causes hair loss you can make good habits out of bad ones that just may keep you from doing things that may cause hair loss.

Related posts:

Rapid Hair Loss With No New Hair Replacement Leads To Thinning Hair And Hair Loss To avoid excessive hair loss or thinning of hair as...

Anxious About Preventing Or Coping With Hair Loss Does hair loss run in your family or you suspect...

Stopping Or Preventing Hair Loss The obvious question asked after discovering the cause for hair...

Comparing Normal Hair Growth To Hair Loss It is sometimes helpful when dealing with hair loss issues...

Tips To Follow For Stopping Hair Loss There are many causes for hair loss and several ways...
