Given a choice between having fat hips or a fat belly, even the most vain person should select the fat hips due to the diabetic factor of a fat belly. The old saying about jeans making someone look fat could be seen as a positive in a world fighting an increase of diabetes. The fact is having fat hips is better because of the blood circulation routes than having a fat belly. The blood from fat hips circulates throughout the body and does not affect as many internal organs, but the blood from a fat belly goes to the liver first for processing.
Blood from belly fat going to the liver blocks blood from other parts of the body that carry insulin to be processed out of the body. The larger the belly a person has, the more the liver has to work to remove insulin from the body. In many cases the blood from the fat belly blocks the insulin from the blood completely and that insulin remains in the body. The result is high blood sugar levels. Wikipedia.com describes diabetes as “abnormally high blood sugar levels.” When the blood from the belly fat forces the liver to slow or stop the removal of insulin from the body, the result is often diabetes. The larger the belly a person has, the more insulin that is blocked and left in the body.
The answer to the problem is to cut the belly fat. The more belly fat a person can reduce, the better the liver can process insulin out of the body. A person should focus on a healthy diet, exercise and regular physicals. If a person already has excessive belly fat, cut back on foods known to produce insulin and focus on a diabetic friendly diet. By focusing on a diabetic friendly diet a person should be able to keep excess insulin from the body before the liver is required to process it. Exercise can be walking, cardio fitness, running or just about any other form of approved exercises. The reduction of body fat as a whole will significantly impact the amount belly fat. A person should talk with his or her physician and inform them of the concern about belly fat and how it will affect insulin levels in the body. Many times physicians will not focus on diabetes until a diagnosis of diabetes has been made. However, if a person will express concerns in advance a good physician will form plan to reduce belly fat while maintaining the bodies healthy processing of insulin. The end result is less belly fat, a person will feel better, and hopefully the person will avoid a lifetime of diabetes.
