Antioxidants are the substances that reduce the oxidants from the body. These prove to be harmful to the body as they damage it through various mechanisms. The free radicals are very damaging and they damage all the cells that may face them. Moreover, some types of lipoproteins for a deposition on the inner wall of the arteries and they do some additional damage through some reactions that they may undergo with the arteries. The antioxidants remove both of them from the body.

The mechanism of the coronary diseases

Free radicals

Also in addition to this in the recent decades, the scientists have found that the free radicals also play a very important role in the development of the hearth diseases. The main among the free radicals are the low-density lipoproteins. When they undergo oxidation, they lead to production of such active compounds that prove to be instrumental in the development of the heart diseases. These deposit in the arteries.

Deposition in the arteries

The main cause of the heart diseases is the deposition of the above-mentioned plasma lipoproteins in the inner walls of the arteries. In addition to this, they also react with the cells of the inner wall. Both of these factors lead to the development of fatty streak lesions. These lesions constitute of macrophage cells that mainly compose of lipid. After this stage, complex plaques begin to develop in the arteries. This mainly consists of lipids and necrotic cells debris. Moreover, they also have a covering of fibrous cap.

These plaques prove to be a barrier in the flow of the blood. This plaque may also give out clinical precipitate. This generally happens when they undergo rupture or thrombus formation.

The use of the antioxidants

The antioxidants when present in plasma help in the reduction of the oxidation of these lipoproteins. The vitamins also play an important role as the antioxidants. The antioxidants also play an important role in the removal of the free radicals from the body. Due to these effects, they help in the prevention of the formation of the plaque in the arteries. Moreover, they also help in preserving the amount of endothelia nitric oxide. The reduction of the thrombogenicity is also an important use of the antioxidants.
